Senator Peter Mills

Peter Mills was born in Farmington, Maine. After graduating with honors from Harvard College, Mr. Mills served in the Navy for five years and spent three tours in Vietnam. He returned to Maine to attend Maine Law School where he was an editor of the Maine Law Review and graduated second in his class in 1973. For the next nine years he tried major civil cases throughout Maine for a large Portland law firm.

In 1982 he joined Carl Wright in Skowhegan, where he now focuses on resolving a wide range of legal disputes, including personal injury, divorce and workers' compensation claims. He has particular expertise in real estate and construction contract matters. He represents architects and engineers throughout the State of Maine on matters relating to the safe design of buildings and other structures.

Mr. Mills was president of the Maine Trial Lawyers from 1992 to 1994. In 1992 he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, making Wright & Mills the smallest law firm in Maine having two members in that prestigious organization. He served on the Maine Civil Rules Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Task Force.

In 1994 Mr. Mills was elected to the Maine State Senate where he represents most of Somerset County. He has chaired the State Legislature's Judiciary Committee and has been a member of the Labor Committee. In 1996 Senator Mills was honored as the outstanding alumnus of Maine Law School.
