Janet Mills served as the elected District Attorney for Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin Counties for nearly 15 years. Ms. Mills developed a strong reputation as a trial lawyer with emphasis on white collar and complex criminal cases. Ms. Mills joined Wright & Mills in 1995 and has since become involved in a wide range of trial work.

Ms. Mills has extensive appellate experience, having argued nearly one hundred cases in the Maine Supreme Court on issues ranging from search and seizure and the separation of powers to nonsupport laws and the controversial "right to die."

A native of Farmington, Ms. Mills graduated in 1976 from the Maine Law School where she was a member of the Law Review. As an Assistant Attorney General from 1976 to 1980, she prosecuted homicide, tax evasion and major fraud cases statewide.

Ms. Mills has served on a number of task forces and commissions, including the Sentencing Guidelines Commission, the Governor's Commission to Revise the Bail Laws and the Commission to Study the Future of Maine Courts. For five years, Ms. Mills was President of the Maine Prosecutors' Association. She was co-founder of the Maine Women's Lobby and has served on the Maine Trial Lawyers Association Board of Governors, Board of Directors of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Western Maine Sustainable Communities Project and the Margaret Chase Smith Library Advisory Board.
